I do consider myself an artistic person, so when I received an email asking for help completing the senior stoles, I was very excited to help. At first, I volunteered to help with one. I sat down, sketched out my idea, incorporated the person whos stoll I was doings favorite songs, and her favorite flowers as well. I spent maybe 5 hours and many of my own dollars to complete it, and was so excited with the way it turned out. I bought a bouquet of fake flowers, destemmed them, and hotglued them on to the front side. I thought to make it extra special, I would do a hidden design on the inside. I sketched out the cover art for a travis scott album, and perfectly recreated it using paint. I was very excited with the way this turned out and glad I got to help my school community.
Looking back at my Jamaica trip, I was able to see the affect the United States has on other countries around the world. America has a very bad rep in many other countries, mainly because of our president Donald Trump. Many of the people I met during my trip were blown away by the kindness and compassion shown from us as they assumed all Americans were ignorant and only visited Jamaica for the beaches. Through me and my classmates doing good for the community there we were able to make lasting connections with people in the community, but also I gained so many memories, skills, and lessons through everyone we interacted with. Jamaica is generally a very poor country, so it was very interesting to me how the community there lived day to day, and how they were able to be so happy with the very little they had. It was definitely a reality check for me, as I came back more focused on the connections with those around me and making ties with my community.
